Are We Teaching Well? In one of the most loved chapters of First Corinthians, we find these words “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal (Chapter 13:1). Even if we don’t readily realize it, as believers we are all teachers in some way. Many of you diligently prepare lessons to share with groups on a weekly basis, and we are thankful for your willingness to be used in the lives of others to help them come to a saving faith or to grow in their relationship with God. On the other hand, if we find ourselves in the role of parent, child, sibling, aunt/uncle, grandparent, employee/employer, or church member (to name a few), we are in a teaching position. Teaching is simply telling someone else what Jesus is teaching us through His powerful Word and as He reveals Himself to us in prayer. So whether we ever stand before a group or not, we are still teachers through the things that we say and through our actions and reactions. Peter says in Chapter 3:15 of his first letter, “..Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” Someone is watching our lives as an open book on how to live the Christian life victoriously. So are we teaching well today?
As First Corinthians 13 says, we must teach from hearts of love; otherwise our words can be compared to nothing but noise. Daily, we must ask God to fill us with His perfect love so that we can love Him appropriately as the Word commands, but also so that we have a reservoir of love to spill into the lives of those He places in our paths. A word taught in love, gentleness and respect is more likely to be received than a harsh, condemning one. Jesus, the Master Teacher, taught in love and He will enable us to do likewise in the opportunities He gives us daily. Thank you again for your continued support of Complete in Christ Ministries through your faithful prayers, words of encouragement and giving. You play an important role in many hearing the good news of Jesus, and we sincerely appreciate your love for Him and us. Please pray for us as we enter a busy October. |
