Are We Using our Time Wisely?

As another month rolls off the calendar in 2008, we believe that we must all ask ourselves a very important question.  “How are we using the precious time the Lord gives us?”  Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  So we must ask ourselves if we are diligently seeking Him above all else and with all of our hearts?  Over the past few months God has reminded us of the importance of truly searching for Him.  He also has reminded us of three avenues through which we can more earnestly, fervently seek Him.  We would like to encourage you with a reminder of these three avenues as well.

1.        The Word – Are we seeking Him through spending time in the Word?  The most prevalent way God speaks to His people is through His powerful Word.  Bible study groups and Sunday school classes are great opportunities to spend time in the Word, but the most precious time for God to speak to us is when we are all alone with Him, listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit as He reveals the greatness, glory, will and sometimes even correction of God.

2.        Prayer – Are we seeking Him through prayer?  Study of the Bible and prayer often go hand in hand.  Prayer is a two way conversation between us and Almighty God, when we are free to share the concerns of our hearts with Him, but also to listen as He speaks back to us.  What a privilege we have because of Jesus!

3.        Worship – Are we seeking Him through worship?  Remembering the context of the first time worship is used in scripture (Genesis 22:5), we are reminded through Abraham’s example of sacrifice that worship is laying those things that are most important to us on the altar of trust before Holy God.  Jesus reminds us in the New Testament that the Father is looking for those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

As time continues to zip by, may we be faithful to seek Him above all else.
