But the Greatest of These is Love

In I Corinthians 13:1-3 we read these words, “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.”

During the month of June, God has given us several opportunities to minister to others.  Wayne will be preaching at a  youth rally at Eupora High School on June 1st, and Tina will have the opportunity to participate in a ladies conference on June 6th and 7th  especially for the ladies whose lives were forever changed on August 29, 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.  Later in the month, we will both work at basketball camps for elementary boys and girls and jr. high and high school girls at Central Holmes Christian School.  On June 20th, Wayne will fly to San Diego to take part in a mission trip to minister in a very poor section of Mexico on the California Baja.     The question that is of utmost importance is this:   What is our motivation for serving in all the places where the Lord is sending us?  Whether we are serving in a foreign country, in our home church, in our neighborhood or in our home, the motivation must always be God’s love.  Because God is love, He gives an abundant supply to all His children if we will receive it.  When we receive God’s love, we have perfect love that we are able to give back to Him, loving Him supremely as the greatest commandment instructs.  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”  Since He gives us far more love than we can give back to Him, a reservoir of love builds in our lives.  This is what God expects us to allow to spill out into the lives of others, thus fulfilling the second command, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”     Is the power behind your service to others, the love of God?  We will never serve others in a fulfilling, selfless way until we have received perfect love from God.  I Corinthians 13:13, “Now these three remain:  faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.”  Please pray for us as we serve this month that love for God and others will be our motivation for going and giving.

Thank you for all your continued love for us and your prayers as well as gifts

Newsflash

God is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act?  Does He promise and not fulfill?
